Baby Ultrasounds and are 3d ultrasounds safe?
Getting To Know Your Baby
In the past, expectant parents were not able to see their baby’s facial features or expressions before they were born. With today’s 3D 4D and HD technology, parents are able to see their babies yawn, smile and even perform intricate finger movements. Instead of the traditional 2D baby ultrasound scans that most parents are used to seeing, these realistic 3 and 4 dimensional scans provide a connection between parents and child that are beneficial for the whole family to enjoy. Studies have shown a greater bonding experience when seen in 3D ulrasound!
3D ultrasound and 4D ultrasound are essentially the same technology with the only difference being 4D adds the dimension of time, thus creating a video scan.
We offer 3D and 4D ultrasound packages that make wonderful keepsakes from your pregnancy. Throughout your life you will enjoy having your 3d ultrasound video and photos.
As many people don’t know where to go to get elective pregnancy ultrasound scans, one of the driving forces behind opening our studio was to make 3D & 4D ultrasound easily accessible in Massachusetts without fighting traffic in the city. We are located just 10 minutes from Quincy ma and Braintree Ma. We wanted to offer a convenient, welcoming and affordable way to have a truly special experience “meeting” your baby in utero.
Every mother’s experience in carrying a child is different
Some feel that seeing their baby in 3D 4D ultrasound even once is already precious enough. However some mothers wish to monitor their baby’s growth more closely. They may choose to see their baby more than once, having the 1st scan between 12 and 16 weeks and then again between 28 weeks and 34 weeks. During these two periods, your baby’s facial definition will be more developed giving you a more realistic look at how your baby is developing. Our special “Curious Mamma & Daddy Club” offers you a safe and affordable way to watch your baby grow! Some mothers-to- be choose to visit our studio several times during their pregnancies and are so surprised each time at how quickly their baby changes.
WHAT IS ULTRASOUND IMAGING?
Ultrasound technology uses sound waves. The waves bounce off the tissue and return to the ultrasound machine at different frequencies, depending on the density of the
tissue. Our ultrasound machine is a highly specialized computer that translates the returning sound waves into images for viewing on its computer monitor. The machine at our 3D ultrasound location is an FDA approved 3D 4D sonogram machine. We use special probes with special software to transform a 2D image into 3D 4D and now HDlive Images. They resemble the ultrasound probes at your Doctors office but are more advanced.
2D, 3D and 4D & HDlive sonograms are trademarked terminology used in the industry to distinguish the different types of pictures and videos that can be provided.
2D ultrasounds are the traditional black & white ultrasounds that you have probably seen before. The pictures show the skeletal structure (outline) of the baby. You also get to
see the baby moving in 2D!
3D shows the tissue of the baby, which is more like real pictures. We can see the roundness of the baby’s face, the shape of the nose and the contours of the lips. The color is actually not the color of the baby, it is computer enhanced to make the pictures more appealing.
4D shows the tissue of the baby as the baby is moving. The 4D video clips of your baby are similar to the 3D pictures – but moving!
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN 2D, 3D 4D Ultrasound & HDlive IMAGING?
2D, 3D and 4D are trademarked terminology used in the industry to distinguish the different types of pictures and videos that can be provided.
2D ultrasounds are the traditional black & white ultrasounds you have probably seen before. The pictures show the skeletal structure (outline) of the baby. You also get for your diagnostic ultrasound. It is still the best technology for gathering measurements of the baby and ensuring that the baby is developing as expected.
3D shows the tissue of the baby, which is more like real pictures. We can see the roundness of the baby’s face, the shape of the nose and the contours of the lips. The color is actually not the color of the baby, it is computer enhanced to make the pictures more appealing. We can show the baby in sepia, blue, or red.
4D shows the tissue of the baby – as the baby is moving. This will provide moving clips of your baby in action! The 4D video clips of your baby are similar to the 3D pictures – but moving!
HDlive goes just a step beyond by adding a light feature to the 4D Ultrasound thus bringing a bit more texture or “lightness” to your baby’s face and body. Not all babies will ultrasound well in HDlive. Factors that affect HDlive imaging are ample fluid in front of baby’s face or the position of the placenta or cord. If HDlive is not an option for you then HD 4D ultrasound is still available and is quite an amazing sight to see. If your baby does NOT allow for HDlive imaging then we will NOT charge you for that option, so no worries! We will not charge you for something we cannot give you, that is our promise to our clients who we value to much!

ARE 4D ULTRASOUNDS SAFE? The short answer is YES! Read more below
Published studies on ultrasounds can be reviewed below on Dr. Joseph Woo’s world renowned website, a highly respected source of information on maternal-fetal medicine.
WHAT KIND OF ULTRASOUND EQUIPMENT DO YOU USE TO PERFORM ALL YOUR ULTRASOUNDS?
We use the state of the art equipment from GE to complete all Ultrasound examinations. Our equipment has been seen in GE television commercials and many printed articles from around the world. Our machine is the best 2D, 3D and 4D Ultrasound machine available with HDlive as the cherry on top!
Please note, many organizations claim to use “state-of-the-art” equipment, when in fact they use older or inferior technology. Only the GE E8 Expert equipment generates 3D images with amazing clarity and gives you the same clarity with 4D imagery of your baby in motion. Our sonogram equipment allows you to see your baby in live 4D ultrasound video unlike any other on the market today.
Does the location of my placenta impact the quality of my images?
Not necessarily. Many clients with anterior placenta ( in front ) often ask if there will be difficulty seeing their baby with a 3d and 4d ultrasound. A large percentage of our clients have anterior placenta and we are able to scan from the side and around the placenta to see the baby. In some cases, the baby will face into the placenta, whether it is anterior, posterior ( along the back) or fundal ( along the top), in which case, we will work to try to get the baby to move away from the placenta. Some of the images will have parts of the placenta in them, after all, we are imaging the baby in the womb. We will do our best to get as much of the face in view as possible but a full face shot is not always available.
Similarly, babies are often going to be putting their hands and feet in their face and may not free up a view of the entire face. Many moms write back to tell us that their babies make the same gestures and put hands and feet in the face after birth just as they did in the womb and it makes them treasure the ultrasound images even more.
Will I always get a beautiful picture of my baby?
Usually, but not always. Sometimes if the baby is persistently looking face down, i.e. towards your spine it may be difficult to see the baby’s face. Other factors, such as the baby facing the placenta or lack of amniotic fluid in front of the baby’s face, may affect the quality of the images.
First, our sonographer’s will try repositioning the mom, asking her to walk around, etc. to see if we can obtain a better position. If we are unable to obtain images during the session, we will schedule a repeat scan as deemed appropriate by the sonographer, allowing time for the baby to turn to a favorable position.
We make no promises that the images will be similar to those you might have seen elsewhere or even from our clinic, or that we can always meet everyone’s expectations. Every baby scans differently, depending on its gestational age, position, amount of fluid, and mother’s condition. We promise to make every effort to obtain the best possible images of whatever parts of the baby that can be seen
WHAT TYPE OF TRAINING DO WE HAVE?
All our imaging technicians have been specially trained to do prenatal ultrasound imaging. We use state-of-the-art ultrasound equipment specifically calibrated for fetal imaging. All our ultrasound
techs are trained in the specific fetal imaging methods, programs and applications required to get the best pictures and videos possible. We have been open since 2010 in Hanover, ma.
WHEN WILL I RECEIVE THE PICTURES, ON FLASH DRIVE, CD AND DVD?
All your keepsake items will be ready for you to take home when you leave. The DVD is a video recording of your entire session set to music. We record the entire session so you don’t miss anything. We want you to see the baby yawn, pout, smile, stretch and hiccup! Your DVD is an unedited, complete movie of what is seen during our ultrasound. If you decide later that you want your 4d ultrasound video, we can send it to you via e-mail with our BabyFlix App.
WILL WE BE ABLE TO TELL IF THE BABY IS A GIRL OR A BOY?
We are happy to check gender, and this service is included in almost all of our packages. We prefer to check gender after the baby reaches 16 weeks however, we do start gender at 14.5 weeks. Early Gender determination cannot be guaranteed since we must rely on the cooperation of the baby and several other factors outside of our control. But, if you are at least 14.5 weeks along and we cannot see the baby’s gender due to a stubborn little one, we will bring you back for free!
DO I NEED TO HAVE A FULL BLADDER?
No, a full bladder does not always improve the ultrasound pictures in an average sized woman. But, being well hydrated increases the transparency of the amniotic fluid. This greatly affects the clarity of the 3D pictures and 4D videos. It is recommended that you drink plenty of water for the 2 or 3 days before your appointment. If you any questions, please call us at 781-878-1230
WILL MY INSURANCE PAY FOR THE APPOINTMENT?
At this point, insurance does not cover the costs of 3d Ultrasounds. Since this ultrasound is elective and is not intended to be a replacement for a complete diagnostic Ultrasound. We accept cash, Visa, MasterCard, Amex and debit cards. How much does a 4D ultrasound cost? Check out our 3d and 4d ultrasound packages here.
CAN I BRING ANYONE WITH ME TO WATCH THE ULTRASOUND?
Absolutely. Our scanning suite is large enough to accommodate 15 or more family members and friends. Bring everyone and anyone you wish! We have 5 screens and a lot of seating so everyone has a front row seat for the big show. We also have a “kids” zone to occupy children.
* Ask us about LIVE Internet streaming with Babyflix for those who cannot be with you at or studio during your scan.
